Starter:  What would you do with a million dollars?

 

Passage:  Read Matthew 25:14-30

 

  • The Master represents God:
  • Would you say God is gracious or ungracious in this parable?  Why or why not?
  • The Master gives the three servants opportunities.  What opportunities has God given you?
  • The First Servant is someone savvy with money.
  • Do you know someone savvy with money?  What makes them money smart?
  • How do you think this servant felt when the master said, “Well done?”
  • The Second Servant is someone who is given resources, but not as much as the first servant.
  • In your opinion, how did the second servant keep from being envious of the first servant?
  • How do you think the second servant felt when the master praised him equally with the first servant?
  • Would you rather God give you equal ability or give you equal praise for a job well done?
  • The Third Servant is someone who is passive with their money.
  • In your opinion, why is the third servant so passive?
  • In your opinion, what caused the third servant to have such a negative view of the master?
  • The end of the story makes us uncomfortable.
  • How would you end the story?
  • Why does the way Jesus end the story make you uncomfortable?
  • What was Jesus’ purpose in ending the story this way?
  • What is one intentional step you need to take after studying this passage?
