Starter:  Why do you think it is hard for people to admit their sins and self-harming behaviors?

  • Read Psalm 130:1
  • Have you ever been with someone who had to confess a big failure or mistake?  What was that experience like?  Did they try to justify their behavior?  Did it work?
  • Read Psalm 130:2
  • When people face self-inflicted consequences, they don’t want to be alone.  In your experience, who or what do people turn to?  What keeps them from crying out to God?
  • Read Psalm 130:3
  • God could choose to hold a grudge against you for your sins.  What would that look like in your life, if God held a grudge?
  • Read Psalm 130:4
  • God is forgiving.  If we are truly forgiven, we will have a fear of God, honoring his power over us.  In your opinion, do most people make this connection?  Why or why not?
  • Read Psalm 130:5-6.
  • How have you experienced character transformation when you experience God’s forgiveness?  If you haven’t, what do you think is the big obstacle?
