  • Read Luke 1:18-20
  • Why do you think Zechariah had a hard time believing Gabriel?  What was going through his mind?
  • God struck Zechariah mute to help him have faith.  Has does a struggle help you have faith?
  • Has there been a time when you were about to give up on God, but you stayed with him?  What happened?
  • Read Luke 1:59-64
  • Naming the baby John shows Zechariah’s commitment to follow through.  In your opinion, where do most people struggle with faith follow through?  What faith follow through is needed in your life?
  • Read Luke 1:67-75. 
  • Zechariah’s first words were words of praise.  What do you think your first words would be if you had not been able to speak for nine months?
  • God is described as the one who goes first in his saving work.  What does this teach you about God?
  • God promises to rescue people from their enemies.  Who is standing between you and your next step with Jesus?
  • Read Luke 1:76-79
  • What are the best ways for us to be a church that prepares the way for the Lord?  What do churches do that get in God’s way?
  • Think about someone you know who walks in deep darkness.  Please share how their lives would be changed by the good news of Jesus.
