Sermon Discussion Questions

Starter:  Describe someone you know who is “locked up.”  Are they locked up by their emotions?  Their choices?  Are they happy?

Dig Deeper

  • Read 1 Peter 3:8-9
  • In your opinion, what does it mean to be called?  How would you describe God’s calling in your life?
  • When you hear the phrase “inheritance of blessing” what comes to your mind?  Give examples of what this inheritance of blessing might look like.
  • In verse 8 Peter tells people to be like-minded, full of sympathy, loving, compassionate, and humble.  In your opinion, does just telling people to do these things work?  Why or why not?  How could a person who unlocked their life by living their calling and embracing their inheritance of blessing be reminded to do these things?
  • In verse 9, Peter tells people to stop repaying insults with insults, but instead to repay evil with blessing.  What would happen if we did this at work?  What would happen if this occurred in families?  What would happen if this happened in the political arena?
  • Read 1 Peter 3:10-12
  • Notice the phrase “Love life and see good days.” In your experience, do people who love life speak ill of other people?  Do they do evil?  What is the connection?
  • Notice the phrase “His ears are attentive to their prayers,” referring to the prayers of people who are unlocked.  Why do you think God listens to their prayers?
  • What steps do you need to take to unlock your life?
