  • Why do you think people don’t want to think about God being angry?
  • In this passage, God gets angry because his people will not obey them, so they do not get to live in his promise or experience more of his miracles.  Do you think God still gets angry when people do not obey?
  • Describe someone you know who has experienced the consequences of God’s anger.  What can you learn from his or her life?
  • Read Deut. 1:37-40.
  • How often have you blamed someone else’s failure to obey for your own failure to obey?  Why do we do this?
  • Do you know someone whose fear caused them to miss an opportunity God had for them?  What happened?
  • Read Deut. 1:41-46.
  • When people realize the consequences of disobedience, their fear shrinks.  How could we think about the consequences before the fear freezes us?

  • What does this passage teach us about obeying God’s commands outside of God’s timeline?
