Starter:  Do you someone who seems to have it all but is miserable?  Why do you think that is?

  • Read Luke 19:1-4.
  • In your opinion, why do you think Zacchaeus was so eager to see Jesus? 
  • Read Luke 19:5-6.
  • All of the people Jesus saw that day, he invites himself to Zacchaeus’ home.  Why do you think Jesus wanted to go there?  What point was he making?
  • Read Luke 19:7.
  • The people of Jericho are skeptical of Zacchaeus’ experience with Jesus.  Are you ever skeptical of people’s experiences with Jesus?  Why or why not? 
  • Read Luke 19:8.
  • Zacchaeus demonstrates his faith is real through generosity and financial submission.
  • In your opinion, why do people have trouble being generous?
  • In your opinion, what percentage is the threshold for generosity?  Why? What would be the exceptions to your percentage?
  • Zacchaeus offered to pay back four fold any one he had cheated.  In your experience, do people pay back amounts they came by dishonestly?  Why or why not?  What does it say about Zacchaeus that he offers this restitution?
  • Read Luke 19:9-10.
  • Jesus pronounces salvation for Zacchaeus.  What do you think is the connection between someone’s salvation and someone’s generosity?
  • Jesus came to seek and save the lost.  Who do you need to pray for, that they will take a next step toward Jesus?
